I often get this question from people who have been involved in motorcycle crashes. How long is my claim going to take to resolve? It’s always a good question because everybody wants to know just how long. It’s like when we take a road trip with the kids in the car. Mom, are we there yet? Dad, are we there yet? Everybody wants to know how long it’s going to take to get resolved. One thing that I tell all of my clients who have been involved in motorcycle crashes is it depends. It depends on your injuries. It depends on whether the insurance company is going to do the right thing. If the injury is more severe, more significant, requires more doctor visits, or surgery, those cases are going to take longer because there are more damages involved. We need to know the full extent of what the damages are before we can present a settlement demand to the insurance company. The next part is how long it takes the insurance company to do the right thing when given the opportunity. If we present them with a settlement demand and they come back with a lowball offer, I have to have a conversation with the client that it is going to take a little bit longer simply because the insurance company doesn’t want to do the right thing.
