Question:
How is an accident with multiple cars different from a normal car accident?
Answer:
I spoke with someone who was involved in a multiple car collision. In this particular situation, he was driving in Houston in rush hour traffic. He was in the middle car. There were two cars in front of him, and three cars behind him. The car in front of him came to a stop so he came to a stop. The car behind him didn’t stop and he got hit from behind, and then pushed into the car in front of him. The car in front of him didn’t think the damage was too bad and wasn’t hurt, so he took off before the police came.
The man I spoke to was worried because the man he hit took off. He wanted to know what he needed to do now. I told him he made the right call by calling the police and making a report. He made another good call by calling a trial attorney because we understand what’s going to happen. We know who needs to be contacted. Who needs to get involved. How do we represent this client who doesn’t know who to call, doesn’t know what to do? The insurance companies that are involved are going to try to blame our client and say he started the crash. He’s the one that stopped because the other cars are gone. What’s going to happen?
If our client had decided not to call the trial attorney, he would be left to fight the insurance companies on his own. The insurance companies know the law, and they know how to set traps for the unsuspecting injured victim. He called us, and I walked him through the process, what we need to first, second, next to make sure that his rights aren’t lost and that he gets the care that he needs. I said, “Thanks for giving us a call. Let us get a copy of the police report. Give us whatever information you have so we can start our investigation.” Then, we started piecing it together so that he could focus on getting better.
We do this every day. Let us do what we do. You don’t know what to do. He said, “I’m so glad I called, and I’m so glad you’re helping me with this because I was stressed out about my car’s damage. I didn’t know who to call.” When I told him we’d help him, it took a lot of weight and pressure off his shoulders from trying to figure out what to do. He was able to get to the doctor and get the treatment he needed. Physically, he’s getting better while we’re handling the details of fixing this mess.
